About our Sisterhood

The Daughters of Penelope was the realization of Alexandra Apostolides’ dream. Her desire was to create a woman’s organization and because of her perseverance and the encouragement of her husband Dr. Emanuel Apostolides, a devoted AHEPAN, she formed EOS Chapter#1 with 25 charter members on November 16, 1929 in San Francisco, California. She was elected the first Grand President of the organization in 1931.

The Mission of the Daughters of Penelope is to promote Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, Family and Individual Excellence.

Hi from Joanne Saltas and Maria Manousakis, (Charai 79-SLC) the administrative team of the DOP District 17 website. We are happy, and excited to see the progress of this website. We owe a huge thank you to Stephanie Maniatis owner of

for designing and creating our current—but ever evolving—pleasing, friendly Website.

Joanne: I’m a 50 year member and Past Grand President. My long tenure has afforded me the privilege of history, and acknowledging our legacy. This will be noticed on the website and keep Alexandra’s dream alive by learning of her vision.

Maria: I’m a 3 year member. My short tenure has come with a desire to promote the positive mission statement of the DOP with fresh eyes and ideas. That will be noticed on the website and keep Alexandra’s dream alive by continuing her vision

Send us your messages, information, news, etc. pictures
